Dome Shift 2010

LOCAL YOUTH PARTICIPATE IN ADVOCACY DAY AT THE CAPITOL

SPRINGFIELD, IL, APRIL 14, 2010:  Youth from across the state flooded to Springfield on Tuesday and Wednesday to take part in Dome Shift, an advocacy day sponsored by the Illinois Drug Education Alliance and Illinois Students Against Destructive Decisions.  Various peer leader groups throughout the state participated.  Dome Shift gave students the opportunity to receive training in advocacy and meet with their senators and representatives to share a little about prevention work they have been involved in has meant to them.  The students asked their congressional representatives to sign a letter urging Governor Quinn to support prevention efforts in the state.

The youth were excited, as they were very welcomed by the Legislators.  State Representative David Reis started the day off by stopping by to speak to the youth as they ate breakfast and prepared for their meetings.  Dennis Evansheck, a student from Oaklawn, said, “Dome Shift 2010 was an awe-inspiring event that empowered me to become an advocate for prevention.  I had a chance to speak with government officials in Springfield and discuss firsthand what problems teens are facing.  IDEA along with SADD helped make this great experience reality!”

IDEA Youth Network

What’s the Youth Network?

The IDEA Youth Network is exactly what it sounds like-a network of youth across the state that are passionate about prevention.

Why Should You Join?

Well, for starters, being part of a state wide network gives you the opportunity to - you guessed it - network!  You’ll have an incredible support system.  Need some ideas for a community wide campaign to reduce underage drinking?  Want help getting the word out about your event?  Look to the network!
Aside from all of the contacts that you’ll make and support you’ll receive, you’ll also have access to incredible training opportunities and campaign materials.  You’ll stay updated on what’s happening in the state and have the opportunity to help IDEA reach youth all over the state!
